The perfect day in Aldford, my favourite village, 09.04.2017

Here we are, back in UK, and I must say the weather is treating us rather nice for this time of the year. As you probably know, weather in UK is very unpredictable. One minute you could be sunbathing and another, looking for a warm coat and shelter (escaping from a very heavy rain).

I will be writing more articles about Marrakesh later, but today I was inspired by the perfect day, me and my family spent in Aldford, a picture perfect village. If you  are ever in Chester, I would highly recommend to visit this place and it has a great pub – Grosvenor Arms, very popular one, where you can have quick bite to eat or a proper, hearty meal accompanied by local lager.

On a fine spring day, like today,  Aldford looks like a film set for a Miss Marple story. The houses and gardens are all in perfect order.  There is a church, village hall, post office and the remains of a Norman motte and bailey castle. The public house is the Grosvenor Arms, dating from 1867, which may at one time have refreshed the ploughman.  Now it caters for a more fashionable clientele, with black pudding and Lancashire cheese fritters served with plum and apple chutney.

Aldford is named for the old ford that crossed the River Dee. Although, the area must have been of some importance as a defensive point for the ford. Ormerod (as my surname is Orme, I would like to think I have some sort of connection to this lovely village:), in this History of Cheshire, considers that it must have formed part of the Bigot estates, which included the nearby village of Farndon.

Anyway, I can keep writing about it, but I think pictures are much more pleasurable way to learn more. I would like to share some pictures of village I have taken today.
